FEATURED ARTIST:  WYCLEF JEAN

Wyclef Jean is a celebrity artist for a reason — to provide a public service to others.   (He ran for president of Haiti in 2010.)

According to his latest interview with CBC Radio, his passions lie somewhere in the intersection between politics and music.  He looks to people like U2's Bono for inspiration.  "Watching him, I would say he's a perfect role model on how you balance your rock 'n' roll life with charity," Wyclef explains.

Wyclef Jean's 2004 single 'If I Was President' was remade this year for the recent U.S. presidential election.

Big news from the underground!  Pablo Phat has a new mix-tape!

When Pablo Phat was incarcerated there was one thing that commandeered his attention. It was a dream, really – a promise of something bigger that would come after he got out of jail.

Inspiration can strike in the most unexpected places, and often, the best creative ideas are found in books.   A well-known book about Pablo Escobar – a famous Colombian drug lord and drug trafficker - afforded Phat an intimate wellspring of inspiration.

“I’d read a lot of books in prison, and this book really inspired me because it was the story of a man who made a lot of money and came from nothing,” Pablo Phat said. “That’s the type of money I’m looking for. That story of his life – of his determination and coming from nothing – really hit me. Phat was already my name – I’ve had it since I was young – and it was a no-brainer to add Pablo to the front because that’s what I’m trying to represent.”

Pablo Phat’s mixtape, Hide Yo Beatz,  is a throwback to some of the old classics.  The 22 song compilation features a mixture of rap coupled with sounds that his fans have requested of him over the years.
